One of the most important temples in the Aztec religion was dedicated to Tatloc, as this was believed to help ensure the fertility of the Aztec women and therefore ensure the continuation of the Aztec race. The methodology of incorporating information on the archeological findings of the Aztec people into his book was a smart one on the part of Smith (2003), who brings a lot of great information to light. Some of it is found in other books on the subject, certainly, but that does not take away from its value, as Smith's (2003) book is not simply a rehash of everything that has already been said. It is more descriptive than that, and more philosophical in some ways.
